Meet Our Coaches

Karen Norris

Founder of the Serinas and Coach Emeritus

Karen attended Florida State University and swam for the FSU Tarpon Synchronized Swimming Club. She then went on to found the Tallahassee Serinas Synchronized Swimming Team in 1977. Over the years, Karen has coached athletes to finals at Age Group Nationals now known as Junior Olympics, US Nationals and local/state meets. Karen has also helped athletes gain spots on the USA National Team and in collegiate programs.

Anna Jowers

Head Coach and Junior Olympic/Novice Coach

Anna started with the Serinas at the age of 6 with a summer try synchro for day with Coach Karen. Anna trained with the Serinas until she graduated from high school. After high school, Anna went to swimming for Betsy Caza at the University of Florida’s Gator Synchro program. Anna came back to Tallahassee and coached for the Serinas until she moved to Georgia to pursue her nursing career. She recently moved back with her husband and had a precious little boy, Luke.

Ana Maria Retamozo 

Intermediate/Junior Olympic Coach

Ana Maria is from from Las Vegas and swam competitively for the Nevada Desert Mermaids for 8 years. She is currently a sophomore at Florida State University studying political science. She has had the opportunity to train with the current USA Senior National Team Head Coach, Andrea Fuentes, and has participated in many USA Artistic Swimming programs including development camps and Rising Stars. She has also worked with Ovia Entertainment as a performer for a variety of private events and even a music video for Russ. She loves the sport of artistic swimming and enjoys coaching new athletes. She is excited for the next couple of years with the Serinas!
